Beyond the Binder: Evaluation Tools That Make Your Accreditation Standards Work For You All Year Long
The goal of this session is to equip camp professionals with strategies they can use to evaluate and improve camp processes related to ACA accreditation standards throughout the camp season. Participants will gain easy-to-use evaluation tools and an understanding of how to use these tools to make standards valuable beyond just the accreditation visit. Family Camp: Creating a partnership with Federation, local camps and ECCs
The Jewish Federation launched the Family Camp Project in 2016. Knowing that immersive Jewish experiences are one of the most effective ways of building and strengthening Jewish identity, we wanted to expand the opportunities for Los Angeles families with young children to experience such weekends. By partnering with camps and matching them with early childhood centers and other organizations serving families with young children, we are able to offer affordable, nourishing, and Jewishly rich programming for families. Additionally, we provide training to increase the capacity of the camp and ECC staff to successfully run family camps. This session will serve to share guiding principles along with the learnings so far. Coupled with the Federation perspective, the audience will hear from two camp leaders (Shalom Institute and Camp Ramah in CA) as we discuss what this approach offers, the learning curve involved, and the way in which it introduces potential campers to the power of overnight camping.

How Swinging a Hammer and a Spatula Can Help Your Campers Become the Best Counselors and Citizens of the Jewish World
Resilience. Gratitude. Compassion. Reflection. How do we cultivate these qualities in our campers and staff members? How do we translate the values of tikkun ‘olam learning and activities at camp into long-term commitment and action in the social justice world? Adinah will draw on her experience with the Tivnu gap year and summer programs and as dean of Jewish life at the American Hebrew Academy boarding school to explore successful practices for supporting young adults as they learn to use power tools, cooking tools, and these life skills. Bring your experiences and expertise to share, and leave with new insights into the holy work of guiding Jewish young adults through this growth.

Real-World Learnings from Three Communities of the Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Funder Collaborative
Three communities (LA, Chicago, Boston) of the Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Funder Collaborative will share a new approach to teen education and engagement, and the resulting strategies developed with camp partners. Based on data, research, work in the field and independent evaluation, we will share insights about how teens today think about their lives, the broader world, their relationships with others, and what it means to them to live Jewishly. The panel will detail responsive Jewish camp experiences that are attractive to teens, add real meaning to their lives, and help them learn and grow. These lessons will help camp leaders and partners develop new experiences which connect with teen campers regardless of prior level of engagement in Jewish life or current level of Jewish knowledge.
