Starting with WHY: How Values Add Value to Your Program
Most if not all camps have programs that we run just because they did previously, and often because our campers and staff are expecting these programs again. As the tradition grows, most campers rarely know why we do certain things. What were the original goals? Were the participants expected to learn something? Were they expected to grow in some way?
We have found that helping our staff determine their personal values within our Camp values context, has positively impacted our summer program. Staff infusing values into their programs has elevated the impact on our campers. Everything matters when programming, from identifying the conflict inherent in the values, to methodology and use of physical space. In this interactive session we will explore a different way of approaching programs by starting with the underlying values and highlighting the conflicts in those values that spark growth.

Processing Experiences with the Open to Outcome Model
Are you a leader and or a teacher? Do you engage in processing discussions with your groups to help them learn? Do you find yourself helping others through conflict? Are you good at asking questions, but want to get better? In this processing workshop, you will have the opportunity to work through and learn the Open to Outcome model of questioning. With a progression of just five questions, you can build empathy within diverse groups, help them open up and listen to each other, get them to consider the “other” point of view, and be willing to change behaviors that will enhance their positive interactions with each other. The Open to Outcome model is easy to learn and implement and can be used with groups of all ages. All leadership and facilitation ability levels are welcome to join.
